Tell me I'm pretty and I'm the only one Now you've heard my siren song the war's already won You courted my danger, darling. Don't you like what you now see? Come and sing beneath my drowning sea Ignore the warnings of the men who have survived Discover what it's like to really be alive I will cover your brittle body with dripping wax I will tie your broken body tight to a sunken mast Come and sing beneath my drowning sea You can never leave You will worship me Be my company Your eaten eyes will feed my vanity Sing with me Stay with me Drown with me Sing with me

(Gerard) I bid the sunshine adieu! In 1872 When the girl that I liked Made me a creature of the night At the midsummer hullabaloo (Helena) On the shortest night of the year, I told him he’d nothing to fear As I bit his throat and crooned as he choked “Together forever my dear” (Gerard) So disquieted by the quiet in my chest I put on my jacket and my vest And my vampire bride, and my gun at my side, We set off for the Pacific Northwest (Helena) We traveled the country by train Masking our murders in midnight and rain We made for a coast with no resident ghosts To start a new life without shame (Both) But that red, hot, salt taste of blood In my mouth is hard to give up They whisper we’re monsters, I fear that it’s true, But am I a monster to you? (Gerard) We built a small home by a stream Deep in the dark woods where the water was clean We’d put on our best and entertain guests Where no one could hear the screams (Helena) But eventually sport starts to bore Seemed every new throat we’d tasted before I wanted to find prey of a new kind But my partner in crime wasn’t sure (Both) We’d had lads, we’d had lasses like lambs to the slaughter The baker, the banker, the governor's daughter. “You monsters! You demons!” They scream as they bleed, But vampires like all things must feed! But one night we took it too far We propositioned a nun ‘neath a blanket of stars. (Gerard) My wife lost her life (Helena “I lost my life”) to that daughter of Christ (Gerard) I still to this day bare the scars. (Gerard) Alone I couldn’t face what I’d done, so I bit me a husband, I bit me a son A family of three, and happy are we, I loathe what I have become.

Tam Lin 05:47
It was late, quiet, a Friday at the crossroads It was cold, autumn, the fires burning low As I followed a trail of flowers through the wood Each one shaped like a rose with the color and the fragrance of snow And all the whiskey was drunk and the music dying down As I took one in my fist and I tore it from the ground And there was blood on my palm from where the thorns cut in And I thought of the lover I thought I’d never see again Then he stood there before me, a man with hollow eyes He looked half-asleep, half-human, and only half alive And as my legs on their own bore me gently towards him My lips parted and I murmured the name of my darling, my lover, my long-lost Tam Lin… He looked just the same as ten years before When he was torn from my bed in the midst of a storm By a woman whose name we don’t speak in this town Who wears the bones of her lovers And their blood in her gown And then with a cold wind that woman was there A beauty unparalleled with stars in her hair That shattered and danced like fire on her skin The lover, the captor of my darling Tam Lin As I held him closer she smiled like death Told me I’d have him back if we both passed her test, said “He’s no longer the man who laid in your bed, But why bother with words when I can show you instead?” And then in my arms, I held a lion That clawed at my eyes until i couldn’t see And then a host of maggots all seething and writhing As his voice cried out in terror "Just let go of me!" But I held him close though his body kept changing A serpent, a bear, his cells rearranging Said “I’ll never let you go again, my darling Tam Lin Though you break all my bones and you serrate my skin” And all through the night though broken and sore I clung tight to monsters each worse than before As the wicked queen who tore him from me laughed at the sight Of my darling, my lover, skinning me alive Then dawn broke, and silence, I opened my eyes They were whole and undamaged, and there by my side Was my darling Tam Lin, pressed his lips to my own, said “Though Death do us part, I will never let you go…” “Though Death do us part, I will never let you go, Though Death do us part, I will never let you go, Though Death do us part, I will never let you go, My darling, my lover, I will never let you go…”

Lost my little girl to the foxes Found her dress hanging on the briar; Suspended like a fruit beneath its collar A tuft of fur as red as autumn fire The hen house in the yard was torn to splinters Nothing left but feathers, bones, and blood. And by the shallow pool in the meadow, A trail of pawprints lead into the wood So if you’re running through the rain and the sun shines in the sky Keep running till that light is gone And if they catch you by the eye and smile their wicked smiles Keep running till you pass the dawn I followed their tracks into the darkness Running blind through aspen, oak, and pine. Bewildered by the blooming of their lanterns Foxfire strewn like breadcrumbs in a line So if you’re running through the rain And you fall down to all fours Remember what you’re running from. And if they take you to their lair So deep under the ground Remember me and run, run, run! And in a clearing in the forest, I saw before me that which I had feared My daughter, a foxbride in the sunlight Her fur was wet with rain her face with tears So if you wear your wedding dress for that charlatan in red Then you’re already lost, lost, lost, And when your bright coat starts to fade, and your kits come out to play Don’t let them steal another daughter away.

Take my flesh and shake it out, put it in the washing machine My heart is drying on the line while my skin is spinning clean Skeletons are hard to sleep with Bones are all that we have left Shin bones, pelvis, heavy femurs The chuckle of your fingers leaves me bereft I feel the cutting of your cheekbones On the temple of my skull The empty space of unlocked ribcage Once our hearts had made so full And in the morning we'll wake early Leave the curtains closed again Slowly wrap our muscles round our bones We'll take our organs from the wash Freshly laundered, clean as new And carefully replace them in their hollows Because this night will be our last We felt the need to wash the marks Of all the secrets shared together From our bodies and our hearts The teeth-bite bruise on lips and necks The sharp caress on shivering limbs If left too long after we're gone Would fray the fabric of our skin And in the morning we'll wake early Dress our skeletons again Trying not to catch each other's eye We'll smooth out wrinkles, settle seams Rewire our newly polished veins Cause we've already said our last goodbyes Over and again (x3) I'm just a bag of bones now Over and again (x3) I don't want you to go now Over and again (x3) You say it's better this way Over and again (x3) I'm just a bag of bones now Our memories of love are washed out, we're strangers now (Our skeletons remember) Lace and tie and zip our flesh back into place (Even if our love is over) Put on our clothes (I don't want you to go now) Walk out the door (You say it's better this way) Sharing secrets no more (I don't want you to leave me) I'd rather keep these memories instead of being clean and empty When we're clean and finally spotless, I give you one last kiss There's nothing, no response from the clean, soft flesh that used to be your lips.

Men like me must live with their sins A boil in my blood like a fire ‘neath my skin As I search every face for the marks of my kin For no one else may know What I became with the moon overhead In the glow of their torchlights when they caught us in my bed When I found him in the churchyard he was already dead My lover, my sweet darling one When man lies with man we are killed for our crimes But they’ll wish the first life they’d taken was mine For wolves hunt in packs, and the death isn’t kind The forest looks out for her own. (Here there be Howling) It was full harvest moon on the night we returned I knelt by the spot where his body was burned And I tore off my clothes and I howled my grief And then we turned our teeth on the town And it wasn’t my first taste of the sweet flesh of man As we descended on the town every wolf in the land And our hot breath and our white fangs grew wet with the blood Of the men who murdered my love (ahwooo… Ahwooooooo…. AHWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!) Men like me must live with our sins The boil in our blood like a fire ‘neath our skins As we search every face for the marks of our kin For no one else may know.
